TREE CONCERT (WE ARE PROUD OF!)

image

We were selected over traditional production companies to tackle this unusual and lovely project from BBDOproximity: to turn a Berlin chestnut tree into a musical instrument. Five Gang of Berlin artists, Alexej Alschiz, Steve Bergmann , Kamil Garbacz , Philipp Tögel, Sandra Glaser and our creative production services team developed a way to use the falling chestnuts to create different notes and make the unexpected happen. We worked with sensors, algorithms, sounds, signals and light to make this incredible art installation in order to celebrate and support a charity for Berlin’s trees.

RADICAL CREATIVE CONSULTING

WE THINK THAT BRANDS AND AGENCIES NEED TO RECREATE THE CORE MESSAGE OF CREATIVITY BY SHOWING ORIGINALITY, VERSATILITY AND A FLAIR FOR DISCOVERING NEW EXPERIMENTAL METHODS. WE BELIEVE ART DIRECTION SHOULD NOT ONLY BE IN THE SERVICE OF A COMMERCIAL PRODUCT –ART DIRECTION SHOULD ALSO BE IN THE SERVICE OF A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE. WORKING IN INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECT TEAMS, WE OFFER DEEP-SEATED AND RADICAL CREATIVE CONSULTANCY THAT OVERCOMES INTELLECTUAL BOUNDARIES

Gang Of Berlin’s “Tree Concert” wins 7 Cannes Lions

In September 2012 Gang Of Berlin and BBDOproximity Berlin organized a one of a kind charity concert for the client BUND - with a 100 year old chestnut tree as the musician. For him we built a unique instrument: a touch-sensitive membrane construction with integrated sensors, tailor-made to fit the tree. Each impact of a falling chestnut produced an artistic composition of sound and light. Original sounds of the tree (rustling of leaves, groaning branches) became part of the composition. So the tree could play for his companions and collect donations.

Winning two Gold Lions and five Bronze Lions, the “Tree Concert” was one of the most successful entries at the Cannes Lions Festival, last week. We are humbled by the fact that one of our productions has received this much recognition.

We want to thank and congratulate BBDOproximity Berlin, especially Daniel Schweinzer and Lukas Liske for this very bold, creative idea and Ketchum Pleon Berlin for their excellent PR work.

But most importantly, we want congratulate our Gang Of Berlin artists Steve Bergmann (Spatial Designer), Alexej Alschiz (Architect), Kamil Garbacz (New Media Design) Philipp Tögel (Sound Design) and Sandra Glaser (Lighting Design) as well as our producers Friederike Seifert (Head of Production), Kristen Schulz and Mat Neidhardt for their amazing work and the blood, sweat and tears they have invested in this project. Without their hard work, the “Tree Concert” would never have come to life.

For this exhibition in the Gang of Berlin Space, we invited a group of our young multinational interdisciplinary artists whose work ranges from photography and painting to collage and sculpture, yarn to video and color bombing, to take over the space and install a surreal and immersive environment. Kate Bellm, Roberto Cuellar, Hazard Hope, Jose Romussi, Edgar Lopez, and Mymo created colorful and elaborate teepees, wigwams, shrines, skate ramp and more to completely transform the space — particularly during the vernissage, which had a magical and hypnotic atmosphere.
